Truth, Trust, and the Politics of Expertise in Times of Change: Historical Lessons for Translators in the AI Era
16:00 - 16:50
Historical upheavals in science and medicine reveal that expertise and trust are not fixed but negotiated — emerging from shared practices of interpretation and meaning-making rather than from certainty alone. When new instruments and concepts disrupted familiar worlds, professionals were forced to adapt faster than their existing frameworks could accommodate, reshaping not just their tools but the moral and epistemic conditions under which they worked.

Today's rapid integration of AI into translation raises parallel challenges at unprecedented speed, unsettling long-held assumptions about human judgment, linguistic truth, and the grounds of professional authority. Drawing on this philosophical and historical perspective, the talk invites reflection on how trust and expertise can be sustained and reimagined as professionals navigate an increasingly hybrid human–machine world.
Panel
Trust, Governance, Ethics and AI Safety
17:00 - 17:50
Building on the keynote's insights, this panel brings the negotiation of trust and expertise into practical focus. As AI reshapes translation workflows, organizations face urgent questions about responsible governance, risk management, and the preservation of professional integrity — and this conversation offers accessible, human-centered answers, including practical "AI governance for dummies" approaches that empower teams regardless of technical background.

Rather than treating governance as a compliance exercise, the panel foregrounds its relational dimensions: how to build shared practices, maintain professional authority, and foster trust among translators, project managers, clients, and end users in hybrid human-machine environments. Participants will leave with concrete strategies for implementing ethical AI, thoughtful change management, and governance structures that protect both professional values and human well-being.

Storytelling and the Value of Localization
18:00 - 18:30
How can you tell a Localization story that drives business value? Localization teams do great work, but their impact is often invisible to the business. This session is about changing that. It demonstrates how storytelling and public speaking enable localization leaders to influence decisions, connect metrics to business outcomes, and position localization as a true business enabler that supports performance and growth.
